A few months back the Alberta Conservation Association contacted me asking if I would be willing to illustrate a few spot images for an article they had in their upcoming magazine issue. It was based on getting kids outside and discovering the fun that can be had outdoors away from the TV (a seriously difficult task in our world today I might add!). I'm no designer and so their staff put together a 3 page layout for me to work with and there was a lot of flexibility to move the text around. I drew up these sketches for potential spot illustrations. This is where I really appreciate the vision that some clients have. My sketches are essentially point form notes of what I want in my final illustrations and normally there is not much to see. It can be very difficult to even make out anything other than scribbles and stick figures. SO I really appreciate working with a client who can see past the roughness of my concept work to where I am going with it. Here is a bit of the process.
And here is a group shot of the finished spot illustrations.
